Surgical Gender Reassignment in Young People and Its Consequences

According to the Federal Statistical Office, the number of gender reassignment surgeries performed annually in Switzerland has doubled within three years to 525 cases. The financial cost of such an operation ranges from 25,000 to 100,000 Swiss francs, not including lifelong medication. Even at kindergarten age, children are exposed to the transgender ideology and are naively led to believe that they could also belong to the "other sex." At the latest when underage adolescents want to resolve their pubertyrelated problems by changing their gender, the question arises as to the consequences of such surgery, all too often euphemistically referred to as "gender affirmation."

“Considering the multitude of individual surgical steps involved, it becomes clear why there are currently no studies addressing the undesirable side effects in young people,” says Prof. Jakob Pastötter¹ in response to an inquiry from “Schutzinitiative aktuell.” Many questions, for example, regarding the surgical technique or the postoperative reality (direct physical and psychological consequences), remain unanswered. A considerable number of problems are among the expected effects. Postoperative recovery can be lengthy and strenuous. And the consequences of surgery are not always harmless: These include persistent bleeding and infections. Specifically undesirable effects include bladder problems and altered sexual function. Prof. Jakob Pastötter also points out that “the medical establishment is not interested in certain questions that could call the business model into question.” He continues: Results that portray gender reassignment procedures in a positive light are preferentially published and highlighted. Pastötter stated that it would be highly concerning if state health authorities were to implement the new guidelines of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). The new proposal calls for lifting the age restriction for young people seeking gender reassignment surgery. The previous proposal stipulated an age limit of 17.
